No-show cost calculator for dog groomers

A missed appointment is a booked hour you cannot resell at two hours' notice. Put your own numbers in and see the annual figure.

This is multiplication, not a forecast. It shows what the missed slots were worth, not what any software would recover.

What the figure leaves out

  • Products and prep already used for a dog that never arrived
  • The time spent rebooking, and the client who wanted that slot
  • Travel, if you collect and drop off

The real cost is higher than the arithmetic below. We have left those out rather than estimate them.

Your numbers

Missed slots, monthly{{ monthly }}
Missed slots, twelve months{{ yearly }}
Your fee would have applied to{{ feeYearly }}

Arithmetic on the numbers you entered. Not a revenue claim, and not a figure SmartGroom promises to recover — whether a fee applies to any individual appointment is governed by your own policy and your judgement.

What to do about it

Three things that actually help

In this order. The third only works if the first two are in place.

Automated reminders

Most missed appointments are forgotten rather than abandoned. A reminder sent while the client can still cancel free of charge fixes the forgetting and costs you nothing.

SMS usage is billed separately from the software on any platform.

A policy shown at booking

Fee amount and notice period, on the booking page, before the client confirms. A policy read before booking is a term of business; the same policy discovered after a charge is a complaint.

How to word it

A card on file

The step that makes the policy enforceable. SmartGroom stores the card through Stripe when the client books, so your configured fee can be charged when your policy applies.

How card-on-file works

No software can guarantee that a client will attend an appointment. What software can do is send the reminder, hold the card, and make your policy something you are able to apply.

FAQ

About this calculator

How do you calculate the cost of a no-show?+

Multiply your average appointment value by the number of no-shows in a month, then multiply by twelve for an annual figure. This calculator does that arithmetic on the numbers you enter. It does not estimate wider costs such as products already prepared or the time spent rebooking.

Does this show what SmartGroom would recover?+

No. The figures are the value of the appointments you missed, not money any software promises to recover. SmartGroom supports charging a configured cancellation or no-show fee when your policy applies, and that fee is normally a portion of the service price rather than the whole of it.

How can I reduce no-shows?+

Automated reminders sent while the client can still cancel free of charge, a cancellation policy shown at booking, and a card held on file so the policy can be applied. No software can guarantee attendance.
